Online Lessons

Marsman Music has always offered several convenient options in order to accommodate our students’ busy schedules. Marsman Music also offers online lessons to continue to provide you with your weekly one-on-one lessons during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown period.

Here is how it works:

  • Just like our in-studio lessons, your online lessons are scheduled for the same day and time each week, with the same instructor. For example, your online lesson would be every Thursday at 5:00pm with your instructor.

  • We will send out the Zoom lesson login details the day of your lesson, a few hours before your lesson.

A few Online Lesson Tips and best practices:

  • Computer/tablet - if you have a computer or tablet, please use this for the lesson so that the student can have a better view. A phone can work but it will be difficult for the student to hear or see the teacher. Please also make sure that the device you are using has a full battery. Also, please ensure that the Zoom application is up to date

  • Lighting/positioning - For piano students, position the device so that the teacher can view the hands and student's posture. A few feet in front of the student, positioned so that the screen shows the full body and hands will work best. For everyone else, please position the device so that the full body is seen with the instrument.

  • For students ages 4-6 - Parents, please supervise the lesson at least at the beginning to ensure that the child is sitting and understanding what is going on. We've seen with our lessons that after about 5-10 minutes, students are able to focus and have a great lesson. Please try to eliminate as many distractions as possible so that the student can focus (turn off TV, move siblings and pets to a different room, etc.)

  • Siblings with lessons at the same time - if you have siblings that take lessons at the same time and at the same instrument, or you only have 1 device and area for lessons at the home, we will work with you to give another time for the sibling. Please email us so that we can schedule that for you.

  • Join Meeting - Click on your teacher's virtual classroom link at your regularly scheduled time. If you do not show up 10 minutes into the lesson, we will be marking you absent and you will be eligible to use that absence as a make up.

  • Set Up - When clicking on the zoom link classroom of your teacher, please make sure that the audio is not on mute and that the video is on. Please set this up for the child a few minutes before for the lesson.
